Beware of an October surprise

Author: Rosa Maria Young

Finally a debate that was a little interesting though whether it will change anything in the voters minds is something we are going to have to wait until the 4th of November. Personally I am happy I already sent my absentee ballot. I don’t see anything either Obama or McCain can say or do at this point that can make me change my mind. I find that for days and days they are both repeating their talking points and attacking each other, many times saying false things. The best point for me in yesterdays whole debate was when McCain said, after being blamed once more by Obama of following in Bush’s path, “I’m not George Bush, if you wanted to run against Bush you should have run four years ago…” None of the reporters made much of it though. Don’t you find interesting always to hear the pundits telling us what we should think when in reality they are wrong so many times. Oh, well, it is their job.
Now for us it is almost a question of wait and see. Short of an October surprise -and there are still over two weeks,we are not going to hear much which is new from the candidates. I have to admit that perusing the papers today I read an article in the Financial Times whose title alone was scary: “Beware an October surprise from bin Laden”. It began, “ Americans are transfixed by the aftermath of the September surprise in financial markets. Could there be a very different surprise coming in October?” And towards the end it said, “In the next few weeks, as the remaining undecided voters have to make up their minds, Mr bin Laden may again be tempted to enter the fray.” Something to loose a little sleep over?

  1. One Response to “Beware of an October surprise”

  2. Bin Laden may have a surprise planned but I think the following three events will transpire this calendar year- First, the country formerly known as Iceland will become part of the UK in economic terms. Second, the Kashmir crisis will be marked by a period of serious negotiations between Pakistan and India that may lead to a cessation of hostilities. Third, the alleged poisoning of a well-known Russian human rights attorney(currently in a French hospital) by thugs connected to Vladimir Putin will result in a further downward spiral of Russia’s once fledgling democracy. Fourth, President Obama will select Hillary Rodham Clinton to serve as Secretary of State in his cabinet.
