Madam Ambassador Oprah Winfrey?
Author: Rosa Maria YoungDidn’t John McCain said in one of his meetings that Obama was already measuring the drapes for the oval office? Or something like that. Well, maybe that is not too realistic. But what is going on among some journalists and not only in the US is the guess game about who would be in an Obama’s administration. And yesterday with the endorsement of Colin Powell they added a new name to have fun with. Well maybe after all these months of campaigns we deserve some fun. And that is what I encountered when I read in the Financial Times this morning an article by Gideon Rachman. He was writing about the guessing game going on in London about who will Obama name US ambassador to Britain. It seems they are two names up front: Caroline Kennedy, who is a prominent Obama supporter and whose grandfather already served as ambassador to London at the start of World War II. Of course the British will remember that his term as ambassador ended abruptly during the Battle of Britain in 1940 when he remarked “Democracy is finished in England”. So maybe we should look at the second name: Oprah Winfrey. A rumor, but who knows, didn’t she call Obama ‘the One’? In any case she really is a big supporter of Obama and probably has contributed to bring him a few followers. And by now she must be quite bored with her show and her star status. Madam Ambassador must sound good to her.
