Monday October 27th, 2008 17:53 Election night around the corner

Eight days to go! Finally this incredible long campaign for the US presidency is arriving at its end. For me the best of it is that on the 5th of November we will be able to relax knowing that never mind who becomes president it would not be Bush any longer. Happy Crawford retirement!!!
I have also the feeling that after eight years the White House is going to be “democratized”. Why do I think so? Well, in the last 4 elections whenever the republicans won I was living in the US and when the democrats won I was living abroad. This year I am living abroad so the democrats are going to win. Some friends say it is wishful thinking, well we will see…
This does not mean that I am going to spend my night looking at CNN or at a party. As an expatriate democrat I was invited like all democrats living in France, in the Riviera, to go to an “Election Night Vigil, a sleepless night of news, counts and quips from 22:30 -6:30am at Texas City Restaurant in Nice”. I am sure it will be a fun night but I think I will skip it and will sit with a glass of wine in my living room in front of the TV where I most surely will fall asleep much before the election is called. I don’t feel the same kind of enthusiasm I felt when Clinton was elected. Then I remained alert the whole night. Of course I also was 16 years younger…. Have a happy election night all of you and good luck to America!
