A not so tranquil world

Author: Rosa Maria Young

It is already Thursday which means only four days to the E day. What a relief. Specially when I have said I would not write anymore about the elections -short of something real big were to happen- and I am being so tempted after so many millions dissapearing on the air yesterday…. No, I would not do it. There is enough to report around the world and unfortunately most of it not good. Let us start with Pakistan where after the powerful earthquake that struck remote areas of the province of Baluchistan more that 150 were killed and almost two days after people are still suffering, sleeping in the cold as their mud and timber houses were destroyed.
In Africa, the horrifying situation many people are again under reminds us of a disturbing déjà vu: thousands of refugees on the move with their meager possession of pots and mattresses in the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. How many will die or will be killed this time nobody knows. A few days ago I read in a blog how relatively easy was for the rich countries to get together in a hurry in summits and meetings to solve the global financial problem and how impossible it seemed that they would agree to do so to solve poverty and genocide…
Finally, in Spain today a powerful car bomb exploded at the University of Navarra in the northern city of Pamplona. The bomb which seemed to have been planted by the Basque separatist organization ETA set fire to a building, burned several cars and lightly wounded 17 people.
The world is not a tranquil one these days.
