After all that was written for and against the possibility of Caroline Kennedy becoming the next US senator for New York, the post just left vacant by Hillary Clinton, we can forget about it. It appears that Ms Kennedy has taken herself out of the race. Yesterday there were contradictory press reports about her candidacy, one moment she was in the next she was out. Today, in one-sentence statement she said: “I informed Governor David Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate.”
Nobody seems to know what those reasons might be though many point that her uncle Ted Kennedy seizure during Obama’s inaugural might have something to do with it. She might want to be with him at this time, the followers of Caroline point out. It could be so but it takes some believing. He has a wife and sons to be with him and Caroline could see her uncle even if she was running for the senate post. Her detractors are indicating something that could appear strange but, who knows? Has she realized that she could not win in New York but could nevertheless become a senator? Were her uncle to become so sick that he would retire from from his post as senator from Massachusetts she could then run for that post and the Kennedy name together with his uncle reputation in that state would assure her an easy nomination. Cynical? Well the more I think about it the more I see it as a possibility. What do you think?
