The Eiffel Tower gets painted

Author: Rosa Maria Young

While all the eyes are centered in the NATO Summit in Germany and France, an “old lady” in this latter country is making herself a beauty treatment at its 120 years… This lady is known world wide as the Eiffel Tower and at this very moment is being repainted, something she endures every seven years to avoid corrosion, in the same bronze color she had since 1968 which is known as “Tour Eiffel brown”. It seems to be the color that suits her better as in the eighteen times that has been painted it before it has gone from red-brown to to yellow-ochre, then to chestnut brown and finally to the bronze of today. The six millions visitors she receives yearly don’t have to be concerned about its closing as it has been planned that the Tower will be opened during the 18 months it will take to be repainted. Twenty five painters will apply 60 tons of ecological paint without lead to the 250,000 square meters of its surface.
