Sunday May 3rd, 2009 16:47 Cannes Film Festival

In just ten days, for those who like the magic of the movies the 62 Cannes Film Festival will bring some joy to their lives. Something that we all can welcome, entertainment and fun in this gloomy year of financial and health crisis. As the weather is finally turning beautiful here in the French Riviera, a visit to Cannes and maybe the possibility of seeing some stars could be what one needs. And for the lucky ones who have managed to get tickets for some openings so much the better. At the festival, which runs from May 13to May 24, twenty films will compete for the Palme d’Or. The most hyped of them all is Inglourious Basterds, a Second World War rampage by Quentin Tarantino starring Brad Pitt as leader of a squad of Jewish-American soldiers in Nazi-occupied France. It is the sole US contender in a competition with a strong Asian and European tilt in which Ang Lee will contend with Ken Loach’s latest in a heavyweight battle for the top prize. If you are interested in which films will be awarded prizes at the closing ceremony, Keyboardpolitics, will let you know on the 24th May 2009.
