Monday January 11th, 2010 17:11 Sarkozy to create a “school for spies”

Perhaps the disarray that took place among the United States intelligence and security agencies, with their failure to stop what could have been a disastrous terrorist attack in the skies over Detroit on December 25, is what has prompted French President Nicolas Sarkozy to go ahead with his plan. The creation of a “school for spies” with the aim to discourage French intelligence agencies from spying on and fighting against one another, something that has happened frequently in France. The first head of the “school” will be named in the next few days and according to an article from the French newspaper Le Monde it will be a woman who at present is a senior figure in one of the elite French colleges. Known as the Conseil de Défense et de Sécurité Nationale (CDSN) -Council for the Defense and National Security- it will have a intelligence arm, the Conseil National du Renseignement (CNR) which will unite the chiefs of the six French spying and security agencies. The chairman of both bodies will be President Sarkozy.
