Fighting for the middle class?

Author: Rosa Maria Young

Never mind what the White House officials are spinning about their reaction to the Massachusetts defeat of the Democrats, it is quite evident that they are worried and upset. And that is probably a good thing. It is time that they realize, from the president on, that their fellow citizens are not happy with the state of the country. That the bailouts of banks, car companies and their untold dealings with health insurance companies behind close doors and much of what has been going on in the country is not what they expected. Middle class people are turning into poor people, loosing their jobs, their houses and wondering how to pay for their health insurance.
The White House and the Congress should consider themselves lucky that they have received a wake-up call. Now is the time for change. Change on the government priorities and how to go about them. And maybe something is going to happen. Today to begin with and in conjunction with a meeting of the White House Middle Class Task Force, which was founded a year ago by President Obama with Vice President Joe Biden being the chairman, the president and vice president are to announce an agenda to help middle class families. And this theme will be also addressed in the State of the Union next Wednesday. We will see if all this ends up in just words or something begins to change. Up to now many of the promises made have not yet been accomplished.
