Lybia’s holy war against Switzerland
Author: Rosa Maria YoungPreoccupied by the Afghan war, health care, the bizarre killing in Dubai and so much more, the situation between Switzerland and Lybia almost escaped us. And yet the tense relation between the two nations has been going on for a while. It all began apparently in 2008 when Gaddafi’s son, Hannibal, was arrested in Geneva accused of having abused his domestic servants. While the incident ended, it would seem that Moammar Gadhafi did not forget and a feud was born. When Switzerland banned building new minarets in the country in the November 2009 referendum, Gadhafi had his pretext for his next move and on February 15, Libya announced it would deny visas to citizens of Europe’s Schengen bloc, to which Switzerland belongs. But he would not be satisfied with that and yesterday the Lybian leader called for holy war against Switzerland. At a meeting in Lybia to mark the birth of prophet Muhammad he said: “Let us wage jihad against Switzerland, Zionism and foreign aggression. Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against Muhammad, God and the Koran.” Let us stay tuned to see how this all develops as Lybia has oil and countries may not wish to antagonize it openly…
