After writing about so many disasters, natural and man-made, I found some different news that could go under a Pet Politics category! Before pet lovers get mad thinking I am making fun of animals, I must let know that while I would not be called an enthusiastic pet lover, I certainly like animals and hate when people are cruel or don’t take care of them. So, now to my news that come from Switzerland, the land which loves referendums and use them freely. This coming Sunday, the Swiss will vote in one of them to decide whether the cantons should appoint special lawyers to represent animals in court. Were enough Swiss citizens to check the “yes” box, cats, dogs pigs and all sort of animals will be entitled to state-appointed legal representation. This referendum is going to take place because the Swiss Animal Protection league gathered the 100,000 signatures needed for a referendum to take place. Their goal is that people take violations upon animal abuse seriously.
