Monday March 15th, 2010 17:51 Health overhaul begins the finish line

This afternoon the action finally begins in the House and if things go according to the predictions of the White House and the wishes of the Democrats, it could be that America might end before Easter with a Health Reform bill. As of now the Democrats are still wrangling support in the House and President Obama, still seeking votes for his health care overhaul, seems to be ready to reverse his position allowing unpopular deals to be in the bill in the hope of attracting those reluctant democrats needed. Deals such as the ones sought by senators from Montana and Connecticut, even though press secretary Gibbs last week single them out as items Obama wanted removed! The number of changes, additions and deals that have taken place have been so many that nobody but the politicians seem to know what this bill is all about and what really will accomplish should it pass. And let us not forget that to get the overhaul passed Democrats are set to use the reconciliation process as a way to avoid the use of a filibuster by the Republicans. This has all become such a mess that even if all goes according to plan and the Democrats manage to pass the reconciliation bill, coming the time to vote in November they can hardly expect that many voters will have forgotten what went on. The battle for the public opinion has been lost.
