US special forces in Afghanistan
Author: Rosa Maria YoungAll is not as perfect in Afghanistan as the military would like to be or would like us to believe. The problem is that together with the American conventional forces and coalition troops plus the Afghan troops, there are American Special Operation forces that are also taking part in the Afghan war. These troops according to some critics like Afghan officials, human right workers and even some American commanders of conventional forces seem to operate by their own rules and have been responsible for many of the civilian casualties. Gen. Stanley McChrystal out of concern for that and the disorganization among the units in the field has finally brought most special operation forces under his control. One of the latest cases, still under investigation has been the death of five people- two pregnant women, a girl and two men- apparently killed in eastern Afghanistan by covert troops. A press release from NATO said that the three women were found bound and gagged, killed execution style. Admiral Smith, the Director of Communication for the International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces Afghanistan, said Afghan forces fired the shots in the compound. He added, “The regret is that two innocent males died. The women, I’m not sure anyone will ever know how they died.” Contradicting the American report, all the survivors interviewed said that the raid and the killings were conducted by Americans who were not in uniform and who entered the compound before the Afghan forces. The truth will probably be never known. Only that more civilians can be added to the list of dead and that many people worldwide are beginning to ask why NATO troops are killing and dying in such a war.
