It is rather curious to see how some countries attract the attention of the world, sometimes in a positive way, some times in a negative way. One could say that what happens in them, specially what happens to the lives of the civilians in those countries is left to the whim of a few powerful nations which can decide to help or not in case of revolts that many times become horrific. Tuesday March 29th, 2011 18:45 Conservatives lose out in France and Germany

Sarkozy might be quite involved in the Libyan war, but at home he had a beating this past Sunday in the second round of the local elections which took place to elect around half of the town councils in France. The conservative party of Sarkozy lost in part due to the unpopularity of the president and his cost-cutting measures, including in national education. While the world is watching the Middle East protests with concern, Europe is likely to receive the brunt of it with the influx of refugees fleeing their countries some for fear of their lives and some looking for a need to get food and jobs. Apart from Italy which is already tending the arrival of large numbers of Tunisians and Egyptians to the Lampedusa Island, other European countries had not yet had any noticeable increase of Middle East people. The French far right party got a modern new leader. Members of the ultra-nationalist National Front voted by 67.7 per cent to 32.3 percent to replace their founder president Jean-Marie Le Pen, 82, who had been four decades at the head of the party, with his daughter Marine Le Pen, 42.
