Saving the Euro

On this coming Thursday, the European Union 27 leaders will gather in Brussels for a summit dedicated to revive the European economy. Obama will not attend the planned EU/US summit

In 1991 the ECC (the European Economic Community which became the EU in 1993 by the Treaty of Maastrich) and the US agreed to a system of regular summits to deal with a wide range of economic, environmental and travel related issues that could impact the Americans. After the Lisbon Treaty

On the 1 January, Spain took over the rotating EU presidency, a six-month tenure with a change from the until now other presidencies. Since the Lisbon Treaty which entered into force a month ago, the EU has a newly appointed president, Herman Van Rompuy, and the rotating presidency of Spain will have to work together with him. Who will be Europe first president?

With any luck Europeans will wake up tomorrow morning to the news that finally they have a permanent president of the European Council and a foreign minister. No that many of them will have been worrying too much about it. After all the average citizen is not voting to choose them. Iceland chooses a woman

In this global financial crisis we are going through, one of the most affected countries was Iceland, to the point of being brought to its knees. The Icelanders, and specially its women, after blaming the men for the crisis, looked for a female solution to clean up the mess choosing caretaker Primer Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir from the Social Democrats to lead the country until the elections. The Gypsies in Europe

The Italian government of Berlusconi proposed recently the creation of some measures against the Gypsies living in Italy, particularly the fingerprinting of adults and children.
