No that it was not expected but for some there was still some hope that President Obama will not sign the four-year extension of the Patriot Act. Unfortunately, it was not to be and after Congress passed the bill and, with the usual theatricals that the White House seems to love, Obama signed it using an auto-pen machine as he was in France at the time. Friday March 25th, 2011 18:24 Sarkozy is already warning of further military interventions!

While the US president is running into trouble in his own country for not having consulted Congress before getting involved in the military campaign over Libya and his lack of explanations to the American people about what that military intervention implies, the British Prime Minister David Cameron has made a direct appeal to Parliament and outlined the reasons why Britain intervened in Libya and why he is putting the British army in harm’s way. Tuesday March 8th, 2011 17:30 Obama keeps Guantanamo open

President Obama has again disappointed many who believed in his promises. This time it was his election pledge to close Guantanamo. Any doubt about his abandoning his once ironclad promise of closing the prison looks distant, if it ever happens at all during his watch, specially since last night he gave the green light for military trials to resume there and even established rules to hold some of the detainees indefinitely. Friday September 3rd, 2010 16:45 Unemployment in the US inching towards 10%

Not good news for the Obama administration and specially not good for the many unemployed US workers . While the American economy created 67,00 jobs in the private sector in August, which was slightly better than expected , it was still not enough to bring down the unemployment rate which in fact went up slightly to 9.6 percent. Next week the US will find out what President Obama has to say in his first official State of the Union. It is widely believed that it could be his last chance to change the mind of his fellow citizens about the pessimism that the country is experiencing now.
