After the celebrations, back to reality

Will there be financial regulatory reform?
Yesterday and for the second time, the Republicans thwarted the Democrats’ efforts to overhaul financial regulations. They released an alternative proposal that had some important differences in the regulation of consumer lending and they added provisions to tighten regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage giants, which the Democrats had not included in their proposal. Health care for America!
The year-long battle about health reform in the US has been won by the Democrats and President Obama. The bill should be shortly on its way to Obama’s desk to be signed into law. Between that moment and last night, when the House finally vote for the bill, a 153 page package of amendments will go to the Senate to be passed using the reconciliation rule. Fighting for the middle class?
Never mind what the White House officials are spinning about their reaction to the Massachusetts defeat of the Democrats, it is quite evident that they are worried and upset. Tonight we will know President Obama more
Tonight at 8pm US eastern time, President Barack Obama will deliver an address on health care to a joint session of Congress. It is expected that he will press for a government-run insurance option in an overhaul of the U.S. health care system. Political odds and ends in the news
-Among the many matters the Obama administration is working on there is the massive economic stimulus proposal. On Friday the U.S. Senate Democrats unveiled their version of a stimulus that, like its counterpart in the House of Representatives, would provide emergency spending and tax cuts totaling $825 billion.
