Is Cuba changing?

While Cuba celebrates today its National Rebellion Day, the question people are asking themselves more and more is if the country is changing. After the pressure of the Catholic Church and the appeals of Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, Cuban president Raul Castro has agreed to release 52 political prisoners, of the so-called Group of 75, who were imprisoned since 2003 for “counter-revolutionary activities.” Read the rest of this entry »

Stubborn unemployment

Cameron visits Sarkozy and Merkel

On his first trip abroad since becoming UK prime minister, David Cameron visited France and Germany. In Paris, his first stop, Nicolas Sarkozy welcomed him saying that he was happy to work hand in hand with him in Europe. Labour, Liberal Democrats or Conservatives?

For several hours polling stations in the UK have been opened to voters. In an election eagerly watched in many European capitals, we are all waiting for the results which will begin to be known at 11pm local time or midnight in the continent. In one of the most exciting of the general elections in years and with an outcome almost impossible to call, there is nothing to do but wait and see if the rise of the Liberal Democrats results in a hung Parliament for the first time since 1974.
