Buying and selling body scanners…
We began the year talking about body scanners. Terrorism was in our minds but the scanners,in many of the gatherings, were far more fun to talk about. Then we began thinking and realized that, if the US was able to influence governments around the world to buy and install them, most of us would have to go through one of those machines and the fun in many cases stopped. Iran’s nuclear program
Nobody is sure yet of how much was accomplished at the G20 meeting mostly because the most talked about event, one that was probably orchestrated behind the scenes but not expected to be presented, was the dramatic disclosure Friday made by Obama, flanked by Brown and Sarkozy, the leaders of Britain and France, of the existence of a covert Iranian nuclear enrichment site. 9/11 - May they rest in peace
Today as bells tolled throughout New York City and mourners observed the moment in silence, people honored the nearly 3,000 nationals of over 90 countries who died in the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. World Water Day
This morning I was sitting with some friends at a café just overlooking the today tranquil turquoise water of the Mediterranean when one of my friends asked, “Who knows which day is today?” After a couple of seconds of silence, she laughed and said, “Don’t worry, I did not know either. Political odds and ends in the news
-Among the many matters the Obama administration is working on there is the massive economic stimulus proposal. On Friday the U.S. Senate Democrats unveiled their version of a stimulus that, like its counterpart in the House of Representatives, would provide emergency spending and tax cuts totaling $825 billion. Is Caroline Kennedy thinking about Massachusetts?
After all that was written for and against the possibility of Caroline Kennedy becoming the next US senator for New York, the post just left vacant by Hillary Clinton, we can forget about it. It appears that Ms Kennedy has taken herself out of the race. Yesterday there were contradictory press reports about her candidacy, one moment she was in the next she was out.
